Gum Disease - PerioProtect Treatment

The Benefits of Protecting Your Smile with PerioProtect trays

Periodontal trays, also known as PerioProtect trays, provide the most effective method to attack periodontal (gum) disease. Notably, they work exceptionally well for people with uneven teeth since the tight and customized fit ensures that the medicated gel remains in the tray, not in your mouth or down your throat. In addition, the trays allow patients to treat periodontal disease at home, between routine dental visits. Are you interested in learning more about this treatment’s cost and benefits? Please speak to the team at A & S Dental Wellness Center of Leominster in Leominster, Massachusetts; we offer PerioProtect therapy for healthy gums.

What Are Periodontal Trays?

PerioProtect® periodontal trays consist of two fitted pieces: an upper and a lower, designed to deliver medication below the gum line, where toothbrushes, dental floss, and mouthwash cannot reach. The custom fit ensures that the medication your dentist, Dr. Lana Lee of A & S Dental Wellness Center of Leominster, prescribes to treat your periodontal infection gets deep below the gum line. That helps kill all the persistent bacteria that cause bleeding and receding gums, abscesses, and potential damage to the underlying jawbone.

How Are the Trays Fitted?

Dr. Lana Lee will take impressions of your upper and lower teeth to send to the PerioProtect® laboratory, just as with dentures. Once your trays return from the lab, she will help you insert them into your mouth the first time to ensure that you feel comfortable using them. If not, she may have you take the second set of impressions and try again after the new trays arrive. Once you feel comfortable putting them into your mouth and removing them, you will be shown how to fill the trays with the 1.7% solution hydrogen peroxide based PerioProtect® gel and insert the trays while they contain the medication.

What to Expect While Using PerioProtect® Trays

To effectively control periodontal disease, practice inserting and removing the trays several times before filling them with the medicated gel. Then, when you feel comfortable with the process, fill the trays with gel, as demonstrated by the team at A & S Dental Wellness Center of Leominster. Keep the trays in place for the total amount of time recommended by Dr. Lana Lee, followed by removing the trays and rinsing your mouth with water afterward. Rinse the trays as directed every time you use them, laying them upside down on paper towels to ensure no liquid remains inside. Store the trays as required in a cool, dry place.
